Women & Their Shoes

What is it about a pair of shoes that makes women go nuts?
My husband and I were in the store the other night, and I was looking for a simple pair of slip-on shoes. You know, the type you use for running out to check the mail, picking up the kids up from school ... that type of thing. Something where you don't have to take the time to sit down and tie them up before heading out the door. "In a hurry" shoes, I call them.
All of a sudden in the next aisle, we hear, "OH MY GOOOOOSSSSHHHH! You have GOT to LOOK at these SHOES! Aren't they just THE CUTEST things you have EVER seen?"
After exchanging smirks with my husband, we then went into a discussion about women and shoes. I mean, seriously, is there really anything *that* exciting about a pair of inanimate objects sitting on the shelf in the store? What is it about shoes in particular that gets women so excited?
My husband, being 100% male in all aspects, (not to mention his cynical sense of humor), made this conversation incredibly fun. He is baffled by this phenomenon. It makes no sense to him. In all reality, it made no sense to me either. I can't ever remember a time that I got *that* excited about a pair of shoes.
I never did find a pair of slip-ons that night, and put the whole conversation out of my mind. We had other things to shop for, and then we went back home to cuddle up and watch a movie. Our son was gone for the night, so we had some quiet time, just the two of us.
The next morning, we got up, had our coffee, and got ready to go out to our storage unit. It has been about 4 years since we moved our things in there, (items that we couldn't fit into the house when we moved), so we figured it was about time to go dig through there and see what we could get rid of, what we wanted to keep, and move what was left into a smaller unit.
I didn't really want to clean out the storage unit, but decided to make the best of it. I laced up my boots, grabbed a pair of surgical gloves, (I knew it would be dusty), my windbreaker, and we were on our way. It was truly a beautiful drive out to the unit. The sun was shining brilliantly and there was a definite touch of spring in the air.
As we started going through boxes, I was excited to find some of my old mementos that I had kept throughout my childhood years. Letters from friends dating back to the 5th grade and beyond. Baby pictures of my kids. Our excursion was honestly turning out to be kind of fun!
As we were moving the last of the boxes into the new unit, I found a bag that was all tied up. Inside was a pair of black velvet high heels that my husband had bought me for me, (along with a black velvet dress), for his company Christmas party at a swanky hotel that we had attended when we were still dating.
"Oh my gosh, honey! LOOK! It's the shoes you bought me for your Christmas party! I've been looking all over for these! They are SOOOO CUTE!"
It was then that I understood.... at least a little bit.... about the relationship between women and their shoes. (:
